The Flips

"I could tell as soon as we started working together that this would be a really fun group. Our songs are so catchy, simple, and honest. We have a really great dynamic!"

The Flips' new ep on Hozac, I Just Don't Know Where I Stand, is a glorious thing. It has the shang-a-lang of the Shangri-Las, the sass of Nancy Sinatra, the snot of Pearl Harbor & the Explosions, the power of Holly and the Italians, the beauty and the beat of The Go-Go's, the pop hooks of the Brill Building and the sweet venom of punk.

Have a listen.

They had an added tuffness live. Someone should release all their recordings. They've just split up. I'm already nostalgic.

Funny. I live in the same town as these ladies and never heard of them. Guess being late to the game is my main game.

The members have been in - or still are in - other bands such as Tuff Bananas, The Tears, Plexi 3, Plastic Pets, Monitors, Sugar Stems, The Riveters, My Underwear, Jane Doe and The Cop Haters, Goibbledoimbs and Nice Outfit. If you know any of these bands, do you have any recommendations?

Hey it's Wendy from Flips. This single on Hozac will be our second and last.

You can find me in my new girl band The Spectras, and my new glam rock band Ramma Lamma.

Steph and Besty are still doing Sugar Stems.

Natalie is doing Sticks and Stones.

Feraim is doing Cry Coyote.

Thanks, Wendy. I will check out ALL of those bands.

I emailed them and they were apparently having problems with Paypal, this was 2 weeks ago.

I do remember buying the 1st Sugargliders single from the USA and that took 9 weeks so hoping its just a customs thing!!

On the plus side the Hozac single has turned up. Top record

Yeah, mine turned up today. I bought the first Sugargliders single 20 years ago in Rhythm Records in London, along with The Rainyard and Tender Engines debuts. That day was a good day for buying records.

I'm going slightly astray here but the early Sugargliders singles on Summershine are just divine, so much better than the Sarah stuff, why has nobody done a retrospective?

You wouldn't have the Sugargliders tribute cassette would you, been trying to track it down for years?

Was it the first Flips single that turned up?

I don't have the tape. I'm looking at the press release to We're All Trying To Get There (I did scan it, but it's too faded to be reproduced clearly) which says, in part, "the band has consistently refused to record an LP proper - or at least until they can come up with something better than You Can't Hide Your Love Forever - but this album is released by way of a compromise...".

There probably is room for a collection of the singles and songs WATGT doesn't cover. The question is perhaps not so much 'why has nobody done a retrospective' as 'why don't you release a retrospective?'
