Episode Four - ebay madness

Confirmation, were it needed, that the world’s gone mad. Or, at the very least, someone’s gone completely crazy.

£400 for this 12"?!

Asking £400 for Episode Four’s Strike Up Matches ep is a bit, uh, rich, wouldn’t you say? A copy did sell for £225 a couple of years ago, but going to almost double that is madness. I hope no one buys it at that price.

Ebay has opened up new worlds to the pop watcher: a new catch-all category, “C86”, which relates to melodic indie, and some very wealthy people with pots of cash to spend on rare indie pop (£300 for Falling and Laughing, sir? One such was sold last year; the year before that, too).

As far as I’m aware, only one song from the ep has been issued on CD and this is probably driving up the price. If you want a copy of your own to download, just say and I’ll ysi the ep over the weekend.

It might dampen the fever around this record; it’s a decent enough record but it’s not nearly as good as those peerless East Village releases.

This will never sell.
You remember that copy of Hotrod Hotel that sold a year or so back for somewhere in the region of $400? A copy recently went for a mere £21. Ebay: it's an entertaining place but you wouldn't want to live there.

I do remember that Hotrod Hotel as Paul Kelly got both very surprised and very excited by it and retracted his offer of several years' standing to give me a copy 'whenever he found a spare one in his house'. Still, he did give me the EV Japanese double this year which has got all those tracks on.

i know it's crazy!
thankfully no one bought it! then it came back at £300...

i bought an east village 12" for just £1.99. maybe nobody's interested in them after the drop out deluxe reissue?

you are correct that only the title track "strike up matches" has been released on cd (the first leamington spa comp). that's still the only one i've got. if you've got mp3s of the other tracks, i'd be very happy if you'd like to send them to me. so i can stop worrying about not having them! the address is therainfelldown at kittymail dot com.

cheers,
chris

I don't have MP3s of the E4 tracks, but I can make some...I'll try to do it sometime this week.
Finding just one EV single at 1.99 doesn't mean that's the general price (the shop price was around a fiver and I doubt if the reissue will change that as people will still want the originals) ; I know someone who bought a copy of the E4 ep for a couple of quid a few years ago (most shops don't know what it is; it's only on ebay that there's a market).

that would be nice thank you! on second thought that mailbox is probably too small. try uploading them somewhere, sendspace usually works alright.

cheers,

Any chance of getting the tracks from this EP from you still?
